Dans le cadre de l'animation scientifique ISA -Institut Agrobiotech- (CNRS-INRAe-Université Côte d'Azur", Laura Eme, chercheuse dans l'Unité d’Ecologie, Systématique et Evolution, à Paris Sud, Orsay sera l'invitée du séminaire sur l'origine des Eukaryotes lundi 12 juillet à 14h00, avec une intervention intitulée "Investigation of Asgard archaea sheds light on the origin of eukaryotes". The origin of the eukaryotic cell remains one of the most contentious puzzles in evolutionary biology. Here I will provide a brief historical assessment of our understanding of the tree of Life. I will examine how recent results from the field of archaeal research allowed us to tackle some of main questions regarding the origin of eukaryotes, and which issues that remain to be investigated. In a second part, I will present some of our ongoing investigations of novel lineages of Asgard archaea that we uncovered through metagenomics, and how this has provided further insights into the process of eukaryogenesis."
