Vincent Lafforgue, currently a CNRS senior researcher at the Institut Fourier (CNRS/Université Grenoble Alpes), has been awarded the 2019 Breakthrough Prize in mathematics. He joigned the CNRS in 1999, received a CNRS silver medal in 2015, and is now honored for his outstanding career as a mathematician, and especially for his research into the Langlands program.
The Breakthrough Prize was created in 2012 by Silicon Valley entrepreneurs to celebrate achievements in Fundamental Physics, Life Sciences and Mathematics. Vincent Lafforgue is the fifth French scientist to be awarded a Breakthrough Prize.
